The following letter (image only) was sent to the UBC Faculty Association on March 19, 2024, calling on the UBCFA to preserve academic freedom by unequivocally denouncing academic boycotts. The authors reference a statement issued by the UBCFA on May 13, 2024, titled “Departmental Statements: FA Preserves Protection for Academic Freedom and Collegiality at UBC.” As the letter authors note, “How can there be a ‘free flow of ideas at the University’ if we as faculty cannot freely choose our topics, coauthors, institutional collaborators, or conference speakers?” The letter has been signed by 75 faculty members.
